Photographer’s Note
The Golden Goddess of Mercy measuring 73 meters is the tallest statue in Japan. She is holding a baby in her arms that is taller than the famouse Buddha of Kamakura.
This is the third photo of The Golden Godess that I have posted here on Trekearth over the years. I have been going to the city of Kaga every season since February 2005 to photograph the Temple and Amusement park (Utopia Kaga no Sato Amusement park). The Amusement park has since been torn down. I'm waiting to photograph a flat field on one of my journeys. It is a personal project that I have undertaken.
I was walking towards the temple and stopped to let this old lady walk by me. She walked on the street because there was no snow there.
Doing personal projects are slow but very rewarding. Hiking in all types of weather such as cold freezing snow hitting your face, ice rain that shakes your bones, hot humid summer heat, Standing for hours waiting for the right light, dropping and ruining your cameras. It is not all bad because I always enjoy two beers and some rice balls on the train ride home.
