Gasshozukuri Farmhouse

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Shirakawago is a world heritage listed village in Northern Japan.
The farm houses are built in an architecture style called 'gasshozukuri', as the house's steep roofs resemble two hands folded for a prayer.
This massive construction is required for the houses to withstand the large amounts of snow falling in the region during winter. |

Scott,
This is great architecture in a style that I have not seen before. You have done a nice job managing the harsh lighting with the bright snow. Your composition is great presenting the building from an angle showing nice depth and detail. The hazy mountains form a nice backdrop for the shot.

Hi, Scott -
I remember similar houses from the mountains near Nagoya; they are impressive, and the amount of snow they have to deal with really makes the style necessary!
I think you need to correct a slight over-exposure; otherwise, it looks fine.
