What does Japanese do on the New Year's Day?
From right clockwise
-grilled omochi: pounded rice
-separately stewed daikon: japanese radish
-separately prepared spinach
-1/4" slices of kamaboko: fish paste
-hanakatsuo: flakes of fermented dried bonito
-soup separately cooked with chicken (1-1/2"x3/4") and shiitake halves
Some people including my wife are so serious about how ozoni should be done respecting the family tradition.
Every year, there is an argument on how the omochi should be cooked.
Grilled or stewed.
I like it grilled and my wife wants to be stewed.
