Photographer’s Note
I went up to Twin towers in Nagoya today, just before I went to a live concert.
I haven't been much inspired for a long time, actually I took many, many photos but I always ended up with dumping most of them straight to a trash bin after checking on PC monitor.
I am hoping that some people will leave critiques on this anyway..

Hiya Lauryn, good to see you back with a new photo. All the self-criticism that I see in your notes aside, I think that this is really a nice one. The grid lines of the modern architecture provide a good rhythmic structure for the frame, the person on the mobile phone passing by is a well-timed inclusion, and the outside view towards downtown has a nice luminosity and good colors - love the range of blue tones here. Good shot. Just around two more months to go before I leave for Japan again :)
Oh, I did a quick WS for you, just to explore how it would look in b&w and with some more contrast. Not to improve or correct your version, just playing around a little ;)

Hi Lauryn
Nice compo with sihloutette and cityscape. The idea behind this is excellent and nice soft-ish colors well portrayed. I'd personally prefer a non-tilt version with subject more off-centered. But here it works fine too, a nice daily life scene capture.

Hi Lauryn,
Nice to be back on TE and look at all my fave photographers again. A really great shot. Love all the modern lines thats how i imagine most of Japan to be clean lines sleek and stylish. Anyway i think the workshop is excellent really getting the most out of the workshop. I think if i was to take the shot i would have taken a wider angle and tried to capture the reflections on the floor and have the man right in the middle of the shot. BUt still a very cool shot.
Cheers

Hi Lauren,
Wow there is so much to see in the photo; the first impact is the symmetry of the grid and the centered person with the ever-present mobile against the cityscape. At first all seems pressure; then you notice the soft blue sky enhanced by the puffy clouds, then you see the sky is reflected in the roof. A very interesting study of contrasts.

Hi Lauryn, haven't spoken to you in a long time,
I like this but I am undecided about the overlapping man and the window frame-- half of me wants him to not to overlap, the other likes it as it is. To have him not overlap makes the image cleaner but it would also look too contrite, too constructed. Add a touch of contrast to the background, I say, to help the man stand out from his environment.
I know what you mean about feeling tired and uninspired-- I felt that way about street photography for a long time finding it hard to shoot really ordinary street scenes. Until recently I still felt that way.
Part of the problem was that I was (and still am) trying to be too clever, worrying more about how to construct a composition rather than actually open my eyes and see what's going on. Try a change of styles and subject matter or go right back to basics and take it slow and relaxed.
Work out what it is you want to say about the street, its people or the sorts of things that happen there and start documenting.

What a lovely shot, Lauryn, so sorry I came late to it. The atmosphere is perfect and the silhouette very clear indeed.
Love it!
