Photographer’s Note

This is one of the first constructions that is presented to you as you exit Marunouchi Station, also known as Tokyo Station.

Across the road from the station, I walked over crossings patrolled by workmen and builders. They controlled the traffic for people to cross, and quite well they did too. It is odd that they should do that, but when you consider it is them who are causing the 'problems' with their building work, then it makes sense.

I was amazed at the cranes on top of the building.
They are building on top of Tokyo, making use of the only real estate left: the sky.

This is taken from across the road, looking up to get the cranes into frame. The bottom floors of the building, about ten of them from what I remember, were completed and appeared to be in use.
If you look at the different floors you get a history of the construction, like layers in rock. The iron girders are newer at the top, and you can see rust set in on the older girders.

I wonder how long they have been building this?

I wonder if it is completed yet? It will be interesting to return and see how much they have progressed.
