Photographer’s Note
Today a special picture of the Shinkansen, the fast train of Japan. Even if this train is a bit slower than the french TGV, it is probably one of the best train in the world. In any case it was the first fast train in the world. The JR (Japan Railways) have put it in service in october 1964, about 17 years before the french TGV (27 September 1981). It was going at 200 km/h at this time. In 1972, the second generation was going at 220 km/h. Now most of them are going at 270 km/h.
The Shinkansen has made dreamed a lot of train lovers, me too. So it was a great day the 17th of February 2004 when I was mounting first time into it to travel from the center of Tokyo to Nagoya. I have ask a window seat on the country side. One of my other dream was to take a picture of the Fuji Yama. It was not so easy due to the fact that the train go at 270 km/h (see the expereince of Rocky inside the TGV last month), but the weather was quite good. So when I see the Mountain, I take my camera and I try to take a shot.... But I was surprised by another train coming on the opposite way... You can see 2 train at 270 km/, it means 540 km/h of delta speed. My picture was good, but without the Fuji. I have take a shot of the other train with the reflect of the window of our train. My first reaction was to delete it, but after reflection I have keep it. You see today the result.
As I say before, the Shinkansen was a dream of a lot of train lover. I have also found a lot of picture of these train on TE.

540km/h and only a couple of metres away - like Fred says, even 1/500th shutter speed can't prevent the blur. Makes a great many-layered composition, well done (for not deleting it!)

Well done, Jacques! Or...? If you had planned to take this photo (instead of the Fuji Yama), you probably wouldn't have made it. So by chance you get a spectacular, multi-layered shot in 540km/h! And maybe that's what digital photo is all about, to shoot away and then see the potential in some of our pictures, delete the others and then - shoot again!
I think you did very well, both in shooting and in not deleting - and, of course, in telling your story too!

Je ne l'avais pas vue, celle-là! C'est une excellente image : c'est simple, graphique et esthétique. La légende est excellente. Bravo!
