Hamamatsu Matsuri - Giant Kite Festival 2006

During the first week of May, the sand dune Nakatajima is transformed into an ancient battlefield, the tradicional Giant Kite Festival.
Kites with two to three meter square emblazoned with symbols identifying the neighbourhood which it is from ( in this year aprox. 140 teams ).

Olá George!
Esta é uma daquelas fotos que me deixa sem palavras pois eu nunca vi uma coisa assim!
Um festival de 'papagaios' (é assim que nós lhes chamamos aqui), a roupa das pessoas, o facto de cada um deles ter um símbolo diferente... fantástico!

Nice view of the kite-scattered sky. Maybe the people in foreground are a bit disturbing. For the exposure problems, I have made a ws.

what a perfect way to spend a weekend.. my only critisism is I suppose you took the photo from too close, you could have taken this shot from several meters behind and there you d include all of kites in the frame
