Photographer’s Note

Going to Hiroshima and visiting the Peace Memorial Museum and the adjacent park certainly ranks high among the most poignant moments of my trip to Japan. One of the structures that can be seen along the Motoyasu-gawa River is the so-called A-bomb Dome, Hiroshima's former Industrial Promotion Hall which was one of the very few structures that remained standing within a 3 km radius of where the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945.

I could not bring myself to taking a crisp but meaningless tourist shot of the A-bomb Dome - instead I was looking for an artistic or more symbolic depiction and the option I preferred was to show the dome at a very shallow DOF, appearing behind a freshly blossoming cherry tree that could be seen as representing renewal of life, even hope to a certain extent.

I'm at Fukuoka at the time I am posting this, and will return to Europe on Tuesday. Happy Easter everybody.
