This is the view from one window of the observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The buildings extend literally as far as the eye can see and this view is repeated in every direction.
It's hard to describe how big Tokyo is. Probably better to think of a group of cities that have grown into each other. Around 12 million live in Tokyo proper, but collectively, over 30 million people live in the cities that have become 'attached' - that's around HALF the population of the UK!

And about 3,5 times the population of Sweden! A great cityscape shot, the highrise is very well placed in the frame at a golden cut position.

very nice shot, what a view, such a dense composition, all those small houses and some big ones.. really breathtaking view!
but I think there is sth wrong with white balance, the picture is a bit too blue and there is kind of a fog seen.. I think those issues could be fixed in PS, i'll try a workshop.. anyway, great view!

Seeing this makes me even more pleased that I live in a comparatively rural area of the UK. Even shots of central London show open areas with trees and parks. There is nothing here apart from building after building. I couldn't live there if I was paid to.
This for me is a great example of a shot that fits the aims of TE perfectly. Good notes as well.

Ok, you proved your point, the world is so populated. hahaa...nice shot, you captured it so well.
My itchy hands could not resist doing a ws for you.

I really like this pic very much - it exudes texture, has very good contrast and colour, and shows, just like with any great city - air pollution. It is amazing.

This is a really great shot, Dan. I like the different sizes of buildings, and the way the medium sized ones seems to follow roads from the skyscrapers. Well seen.

Its a great shot! You can even tell where the main roads are by looking for the lines of tall buildings surrounding the vast squares of small homes! Incredible :)

This is a great photo giving some idea of the size of Tokyo. It really is hard to describe how big it is! I remember coming in to Tokyo, and was amazed how long it took to travel by bus through the city to get to our hotel...maybe 45 minutes or so, it went on and on! Very well done!

Wow, now this is the Tokyo that comes into my mind - a dense concrete modern jungle and not the more Japanese than Japanese that is usually portrayed.

You've captured the density of the place and the never-ending feel very well here. I also like how there seems to be lines of taller buildings, specifically the 2 that lead to the cluster of tall buildings on the right. There's also a nice line at the top that has another line shooting off it. These make nice visual pathways in this photograph. Nicelyl done here.

A good point well illustrated, your photo gives us some sense of the density of population. Well done.
