Photographer’s Note

The photograph was taken on January 1 2004 at Tokyo Tower, just after the clock stroke midnight. There was a huge crowd in front of Zojoji temple, near tokyo tower for the count down. This picture was taken from the Zojoji temple, the outline of the roof of the temple can be seen in the picture. I could have avoided the roof, but then I thought the soft outline of the temple does add elegance to the picture. I did have the tripod with me, but in that crowd, there was no way I could find a place to fix the stand. This picture was taken without stand.

Standing at the height of 333m, Tokyo Tower is 13m taller than its model, Eiffel Tower and is the World's tallest self supporting steel structure. Total weight of Tokyo Tower is 4,000tons almost half of that of Eiffel Tower (7,300tons)owing to the use of advanced steel construction techniques. Built in 1959, Tokyo Tower is still the tallest structure in Japan.
