Only seeing the inside of a conference hall for three days I was happy to follow the advice of Francis and head out to Kamakura. The bright white sky prohibited any good shots of the giant budha, (and there are many here on TE) but details are always nice. Thanks Francis.
The bronze statue of Amida Buddha is located in the grounds of the Kotokuin Temple. With a height of 13.35 meters, it is the second largest Buddha statue in Japan (the largest is located in the Todaiji Temple in Nara).
The statue was cast in 1252 and originally located inside a large temple hall. However, the temple buildings were washed away by a tsunami tidal wave in the end of the 15th century, and since then the Buddha stands in the open air.

Dear Elaine, this is perhaps the best rendering of the Daibutsu I have ever seen (did I make you blush...?) I love the textures, and your cropping is inspired, truly. I even detect a slight "humanizing", I won't say "dynamising" tilt, which pretty much makes the sale as far as I'm concerned.
Absolutely lovely. Superb work.
ps Very nice speaking with you albeit too briefly on the phone.

nice close-up..I did not know/notice the hands are like this :)..
I like the framing, textures and colors a lot..I wish there was a small item to serve as ref to its size..but what I write now may be nonsense as I haven't seen the place..maybe something impossible anyhow..

Great shot i love the perspective very unique. I agree with bfly a bird in the picture would have been the icing on the cake. However that could just being overpicky. I love the symmetry and the hands really are magical. A very unique and eye catching shot. Great work

The idée is very nice here
I like the detail you have chosen here with very good colors
The position of the hands makes this a very calm composition
The composition could get straitened a bit
Well seen and original detail
