Torii Photo | TrekEarth

Photographer’s Note

Located at the shrine of Itsukushima at the island of Miyajima, this Torii is one of the most emblematic sites in Japan. This sacred gate was built back in 1875 and is 16 meters tall. When the tide is low you can approach and walk around, nevertheless what I do like was this group of scholars waiting for their teacher to make them a photo. Not only they gave the scale of the monument, also a human touch... Yesterday I promesed a landscape, this is kind of, I hope you like it because it was one of the nicer moments in my travel to the est. This photo was taken the day before of the 60th anniversary of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima (the island is in front of the city), a conmemration I show in my first photo of Japan here in TE.

Hi Miguel,
What a impressive gate ! Good composition with the persons to give a scale to this monument ! I like the colors and the atmosphere of spirituallity !
The sacred gate is a beautiful symbol of change !

Divertida! lo primero que me ha pasado por la cabeza.
He pensado, y qué hacen todos tan bien alineados? quién los tiene que fotografiar? tu nota me ha respondido. Me gustan los colores, la puerta impacta, supongo que en la realidad, aun mas! la composición cogiendola entera y con el grupo, da la marca ideal para captar sus dimensiones reales. Bien, bien!
Por cierto, ya veo que has aplicado la lección de hoy! muy bien!
Un abrazo desde Barcelona y sepas que si has de actuar con maldad o desden, sin pasarse y con elegancia, tambien es bienbenido. Se trata de aprender!

Yep, the background of your intro pic ;-), which I like, BTW. Glad, you captured the group as well, as I had never thought it would be this big. beautiful color, and the group lined up in front with their reflection is so nice. Amazing tower, some elegance in it as well, despite the size.
I started a comment this morning on your last pic, but didn't finish it, may be later.

Hola Miguel.
No es el típico paisaje, pero ya que promiste uno para hoy, aceptamos barco como animal acuático.
Como bien dices, la presencia del grupo de escolares le aporta algo a la foto. Tanto por dar una dimensión más correcta de lo que significa la puerta, como por el toque de humor que le da. Vale, humor... no del tipo de no pararse de reir, pero sí que es curioso verlas ahí todas juntas en medio de este lugar.
Y como dice Jaume, la puerta es impresionante.

i wonder how it'd look taken on a tri-x....
are they standing posing for a photograph???
if so.. then where the heck is the photographer.. is he using a 600 mm lens?? :)

Very, very low tide and they are taking advantage of it. A good catch with good point of view.

Ja, ja, ja,ja, muy japonés todas alineadas y con uniforme !
A parte que la torii es impresionante, el contrapunto con las estudiantes es genial. Has logrado una luz excelente, y una profundidad muy detallada.
Debo mirarme tus fotos de Japón, estoy muy atrasada, hacía muchos días que no podía conectarme, pero prometo mirarlas.

Veo que somos unos cuantos "trekeartheros" españoles los que hemos estado por Miyajima en fechas recientes. La verdad es que resulta totalmente curioso verlo sin agua. Y con las escolares uniformadas, más curioso aún. Japón 100 por 100. Un saludo.
