Photographer's Note

This is an apartment house built at the Tokyo Harajuku station front. It is known as a representative case of the "luxury flat" in 1965. It plans for the luxury flat built those days to follow in footsteps of a European and American urban life in Japan of the high-growth era (1954-1973), and it is concentrating those many on Harajuku and the Shibuya area. While being equipped fully with an elevator or an air conditioner from the completion time, one of the originators of the "luxury flat" equipped with the thing of the highest level in Japan is used as technical service which can consider front service like a hotel introduction in those days. It is the apartment house built after Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964. A gross floor space is 23,239 square meters in the 11 floor and a second basement denominated. The number of dwelling units is 164 houses, and there are 28 - 215 square meters (an average of 79 square meters) of occupied areas of every house. Equipment was also epoch-making as that time, and there were established the whole building 24-hour air conditioning by a central system, four elevators, the parking lot (about 60 sets) only for a resident and the pool which can see the whole view of the circumference in housetop. A machinery room and commercial establishment are installed in underground or the first floor. Although many high-rise high-class apartments are built in the center of Tokyo now, this building could say it also as that prototype. However, it was an apartment that it's so difficult to buy for common people, since it was sold for 100 million yen or more at the time of sale. This photograph was taken from the back hand of the apartment before 8:00 in the morning.
