Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken at the Himi fishing port in Toyama Prefecture in January of five years ago. Time has been past 5:00 of the evening and it is beginning to grow dark. I was walking along the quay which encloses the fishing port slowly. The market is already closed and many fishing boats which wait for the departure of midnight were at anchor in the port. The fishing boat which attached many lights other than a common fishing boat was anchored, and it was interesting for me. This is a fishing boat for catching a cuttlefish. This lamp is a lamp to attract fish, seemingly will illuminate the sea by light and will call a cuttlefish. The first feature of the Himi fishing port is a fish catch by a fixed net fishing method, since the Toyama bay had the depth of 1000 m or more, and the cold water of deep sea went up to near the sea surface and the continental shelf is developed to the 5km offing near Himi. Landing of the Himi fishing port is mainly characterized by the sardine of spring, the tuna of summer and the yellowtail of winter. I am going to get up early tomorrow and to look at the fish auction of this market.
