The Kuonji-dera temple is a great place to see weeping cherries in blossom, and is very popular in sakura season. It is midway between the western Fuji lakes and Shizuoka city. Unlike most of Japan, this area is difficult to reach by public transport, so a car rental is best. I was intimidated at first by driving in Japan, but it's actually very easy in the countryside. Even in the cities the traffic is so slow and congested, there's no chance of a high speed crash and plenty of time to look at a map.

I couldn't resist the thought of weeping cherries; the combination of the grace of willows and delicacy of cherry blossoms is irresistable. Their grace is perfectly framed and captured against the classic buildings. And you drove?? amazing!!
