Photographer's Note

One of several 'Disneyesque' pirate boats, that shuttle tourists back & forth between the small town of Moto Hakone & the Togendai wharf on Lake Ashi (noko).

"Lake Ashinoko (芦ノ湖, Ashinoko) was formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone, after the volcano's last eruption 3,000 years ago. Today, the lake with Mount Fuji in the background is the symbol of Hakone."

If you look carefully, you'll spot a Japanese flag, rather than a Jolly Roger flag with skull & crossbones!

I bought a package ticket in Odawara that included this, so thought I may as well use it, to get to & from Okakudani cablecar & lookout over Mt Fuji, even though such kitsch attractions don't normally interest me.

I've added a workshop, showing a wider angled view of the lake, taken from inside the bg building at right. There was no outdoor lookout, so I had to repair some reflections off the glass. I thought it was more important to get the fg pier uncropped in camera, than the upper flag on the boat, which would have meant cutting the fg pier in half. Taken from a moving boat too, with little time to compose & shoot.
