More Harajuku Girls

Well, is not dificult to imagine how much time I spend at Harajuku if you look my other shots... :-)

For youth culture Japan - "cool" and "cute" - Harajuku, just north of Shibuya, is the number one fashionable, fun, faddish, ridiculous, crazy "crib" to "chill out". Come along on a Sunday and you'll see it all!

Harajuku first burst onto the scene in 1964 - the Olympic year. With the Olympic gymnasium and village located nearby, the prospect of meeting somebody famous in the street drew people from far and wide. Today, the area includes Takeshita Street, Meiji Dori Avenue and Omotesando Dori Avenue.

Takeshita Dori Street is opposite the Takeshita Dori Exit of Harajuku Station. Here, shops sell a most extraordinary blend of goods reflecting the Japanese notions of "cute", "cool and American" and "rebellious and British". In other words a strange mixture of Hello Kitty, hip-hop and the infamous British punk. As for the shoppers? Well, any form of fancy dress goes.

Very interesting, i have always wondered if this is pure disguise or if there is some kind of rebellious behaviour that come with it (like punks did in England).

So many times, i see asian kids in Asia mocking fashion and rebellious manners, but it's only as fashion, they still follow pretty much the normal way to act in their society and families.

Much entertaining image, that is for sure.

Hi Jead! Very nice photo, these girls look like very funny, but why they are very serious? Their clothes are coool and very happy:))) very colourful, good shot,
good sharp, nice the murrain behind them, nice composition, I like it, bravo!

I think you both have valid points...In Australia most poeple are defined by their address...be they lower class, middle class, or higher class. Whereas in many big Asian cities-like Tokyo- everyone lives...with varying degrees of space. Probably more important though is that the youth of Japan have one of the oldest and outdated systems of education...so come the weekend what do little Miyuki and Rina want to play dressups of course..just like they read in fantasyland manga where everyone has big gajin eyes...
