Photographer’s Note
Heian Jingu (平安神宮) in Kyoto. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Japan during the spring time. Kyoto is a town with so many attraction, I think you need weeks to explore this beautiful city with its hundred of temples, pagodas, shrines, ...
from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heian_Jingu:
The Heian Jingū is a Shinto shrine located in Kyoto, Japan. The Torii before the main gate is one of the largest in Japan, and the main building, or shaden, is designed to imitate the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The Heian Jingū was built in 1895 for the 1100th anniversary of the establishment of Heiankyō (the old name of Kyoto). The shrine is dedicated to Emperor Kammu and Emperor Kōmei. The former moved the capital to Heian, and the latter was the last before Emperor Meiji, who moved the capital to Tokyo. The Heian Jingū is the destination of the Jidai Matsuri, one of the three most important festivals of Kyoto. (October 22). The procession of this festival begins at the old Imperial palace, and includes carrying the mikoshi (portable shrines) of Emperors Kammu and Komei to the Heian Jingū.

Hi Achim,
The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The trees are framing well the shrine. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the shrine. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hey Achim,
one never knows where the next post will come from. :) A lovely temple for sure. Red as are the temples in China, guess they (the Japanese) also adopt it as the color of fortune. A shame one does not see any sakuras from this angle. But still, a lovely (almost) oldie shot.
Best regards.

Hello Achim,
Typical Japanese religious architecture is well depicted!
I like how the red structure is situated between the evergreens, making a fine frame for the building...
