On a wonderful day when a gust of wind blows occasionally under the clear blue sky after a spring storm, a lot of flakes of cherry blossoms made pink carpets on the path of the park, and they fell fluttering in the gust.
Whenever the gust blew i pushed the shutter button of the camera with 12mm lens put on the ground. i tried various shutter speeds of from 1/50 to 1/1000 since the strength of a wind changed quite often. i managed to get this image in motion blur which many petals were flying whirlingly at the moment which there was nobody miraculously in a 122-degree angle of view.
Taken at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, which is an oasis of 58.3 hectares in area in central Tokyo. Its overlook can be seen in WS.

Hi Hisashi. A contemplative shot that makes one think about the passing of seasons, years and youth. The fate of these delicate blossoms has been captured in a creative and technically speaking, difficult conditions. Very effective. Regards. Klaudio.

I tip of the hat to you for producing such an inventive, brilliant shot under awkward circumstances. Yes, erratic winds can be quite an issue, but what I see in here talks volumes about your skills in handling the situation. Superb job, TFS! Have a great weekend, buddy. I'll be seeing you,

jiherka (4538) 2009-04-26 7:57
A special point of view, but a good idea that you have here. All these petals falling from the trees are forming a beautiful teppish.
marietom (34607) 2009-04-26 8:37
le rendu est génial, avec ces pétales qui s'envolent. Superbe image.

Hi, Hisashi. A very creative shot with a dreamlike dimension, enhanced by the blur on the edges. Very poetical too with all those pink petals lying on the ground. I also like the perspective and depth that the wide angle has created.
Have a nice day,

That is a very original idea. The point of view really made this shot very interesting.
The colors are amazing.
Funny that you have some leaves still falling, I guess you help them a little...
danos (80967) 2009-04-26 20:22
impressive this road that is covered with the leafs of the trees. The path of flowers with the two trees create a specific scene.Well done.

Great point of view. You used a lens that I love and often I use. The falling flakes give a touch of movement and the carpet they made is really amazing. I do not know if it could have been better focused with different aperture and focusing around one meter, probably not. But is also good in that way.
avene (12675) 2009-04-27 21:08
love the photo, so sensual and light, like flowing silk.y the low point of view and wide angle work really well to add unusual twist to what otherwise would be a fairly mundane shot, my compliments to your creativity :) the out of focus areas around the edges add to the power of the image, the resulting tunnel effect simply draws the eye in. excellent work, I like it a lot.

Une compo très originale et un résultat surprenant.
Les couleurs sont superbes et le pov donne beaucoup de profondeur.

Nice one, I like the wide angle effect and the blur at top and bottom that combined with the falling petals provide dynamism and motion feeling, could have worked also well in vertical format.
Have a nice day JY

Hi Hisashi. Wow, this is one of the best sakura shots that I have ever seen. Very smart idea to put the camera with the wide lens on the ground, and then benefit from the motion blur assisted by the wind. I added this photo to my favorites.
phwall (6785) 2009-04-29 21:25
A strikingly beautiful capture. An inspiring POV and composition, the low angle contributes so much to the beauty of the shot. I love the way you have used the foreground petals to create the theme for the wonderful colours. The way you have allowed nature to create the motion blur is true genius.
I have had the privilege to walk through this beautiful park on my one and only visit to Tokyo
A brilliant image my friend, I too have added this to my favorites.

voici une manière très personelle et originale de nous faire découvrir une scène de printemps au pays du soleil levant. Beaucoup de dynamique avec ces pétales de fleurs qui volent dans le vent.
Beaucoup de fraicheur aussi.

I'm honoured to receceive a comment from you, in Japan.
I see a lovely "action shot" featuring the falling petals on passage of a king!
Your judicious low angle emphasizes the effect of abundance on path.
In my opinion, this is never-published scenery.

Hisashi what a wonderful way to capture the falling blossoms in motion. I like the wide angle sweeping view and the composition perspective from low down...to earth...where all blossoms are destined to fall....
carper (96) 2009-05-05 3:11
very original pov here Hisashi.
nice effect, very nice depth and well composed, a good one, have a good day.
buscape (6219) 2009-05-06 4:44
beautiful colors, great POV and outstanding effect of your wide angle. I especially like the falling cherry blossoms, that you have captured so well.
dmarizz (2796) 2009-05-07 2:41
I appreciate your technical experiments, but the result at my eyes is a a mixed bag.
The time of exposure is perfect to "partially freeze" the movement of flakes, but the aperture (or the lens characteristics, I do not know) creates a bit annoying blurring effect on the picture borders.
Personally I would try an event closer aperture (at higher ISO) or a crop of the center (and less blurred) zone of the frame.
Anyway a far from simple or trivial shot. Congratulations, Dario.
yso (4146) 2009-05-11 3:30
I like a lot this effect, it gives a dynamic composition with so beautiful colors, very well done !
vinicio (23415) 2009-05-12 22:46
Excellent PoV and great impact of this picture, I love both the low PoVs and the big distortion of the wide angles, so this is a perfect image, compliments Hisashi
Have a nice day

Fantastic this impression that I have to be pulled and to pushed in petals of flowers's a sea.
You managed perfectly your centring and your regulations to create a very original and creative photo.
Congratulations, best regards
Angshu (53982) 2009-05-15 1:12
One of the best pictures of cherry blossoms I've seen. We can literally feel the wind here & your low POV makes me feel I'm one of those petals myself. The idea, the composition & POV all makes this a shot to admire & learn from! A favourite for me!
darek1978 (13361) 2009-05-16 3:22
Very nicely composed foreground. I like the low POV, your camera must have been almost touching the ground. Well done!
erthmuffin (1551) 2009-06-09 21:28
LOVE THIS!!! I love the lens and how you worked with your camera to get such a great image! the low point of view is interesting and you really captured a sense of motion. great color balance, as well.
MichaelTrezzi (3347) 2009-06-16 10:52
This could be a common photo, however you managed to convert it into a fantasy full of action. Excellent perspective by the extremely low angle allowing you for unussually deep picture. I would even say, that the unsharp foreground is better than a sharpe one - this leaves space for phantasy. And the motion blurred leafs are the consequence after an action, which you can just dream of. Wonderful picture. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards, Michael
BluSimo (9392) 2010-10-22 9:54
very well executed! the sense of the movement of the petals is excellent. those which fly towards the vanishing point, between the trees, are wonderful. also the trees seem to dance. my compliments for this extraordinary one shot!
jonathan_hart (21274) 2010-10-26 12:31
i missed this amazing photo, it is as if i was dreaming ! the low POV makes it even more original
romanaa (7758) 2010-10-29 12:42
I am absolutely stunned with this picture. I know that the time when sakuras are blooming is widely celebrated in your country. It is not only a technically flawless picture with the movement captured with perfect timing, but the way you have captured the last of the flowers falling suggests that this tradition is living deep in your heart and that you value the last flowers the same as the whole trees in full blossom.
I am adding it to my favourites list.
jmdias (50365) 2010-12-07 1:07
amazing view of the end of the show, when the artists close the window. perfect details in the ground and air. the nude trees ahead shows the end of this part of the year. perfect artistic mood, very unusual scene. perfect job. TFS

I watched the abstract paintings of Mark Rothko yesterday, which absorb the viewer completely. Of course your photo is not in the style of his paintings, but it is ALIVE and so absorbing. I enjoy that feeling! Excellent work! Take care, Beata

A very good subject from a great angle. A marvelous composition! Amazing colours and ideal cadre...
Let us hope it is a sign of hope for the people of Japan who have suffered so much the last weeks. Best wishes to you and to all those who have suffered. May the future be brighter...
