Photographer’s Note
I liked the brightly painted fire and the grumpy face of this statue in the grounds of a park in Adachigahara near Nihonmatsu.
It stood around 50 to 60cms tall. I regretted not throughing the background out of focus.

Yes, I like the statue too. my comments would echo your regrets. Some clever people out there might be able to do something in PS to improve this one no doubt. :-)

I think to really capture this guy in all his glory you needed to have a chain saw in your camera bag. Remove the tree and take the shot more from the left, filling the background with geometric windows and trim would make this a more interesting shot. Minimally I'd crop just a little bit higher. You could go into an editing program and de-focus the background.
