As I was working in Yawatahama, the CEO of the shipyard there invited me and a colegue to see a doll festival.
I thank you for inviting me, and showing me these beutiful creations of dolls and landscape.

These festivals are to honor the last girl born in the family, and to bring her luck on the way thrugh her life. So every family who has a girl would try their best to make one of these displays the first spring of her life. These displays last for one day, and the cherry flowers, dolls and everything else is hand made.

Hi Halgeir, this is very well balanced and colourful photo of the doll and blur background but you can still still see beautiful things behind such as flowers and the branch though not quite sure about the red frame!. Good capture. Regards, Bawant

A charming photo with an interesting explanatory note. I agree with Balwant that the frame does not compliment the image - I find the colour is too strong. Thanks for sharing this unusual TE post.

A very original topic, and the doll is richly clad in her colored dress. But I regret the slightly blurred background (perhaps it was voluntary to avoid revealing to much this is just a diorama). I also concur about th framing (but I am no much in favour of framings).
All the best,

A funny compo, well realized with the dof choice you made. The off-centering is excellent too. The doll looks finally... human !

Seems I have verlooked a few of your photos recently.
Now that I have visited Japan I have a deeper understanding of their commitment to matters and a photo like this really shows how deeply they are attached to tradition.
I find your photo to look good, I do however feel that the frame is taking a bit too much of the attention here.
Other than this I feel the composition is great, especially the DOV looks great.
