Photographer’s Note
A colourful float, on a van carrying part of the procession through the streets of Nagasaki. The street was temporarily closed to all other traffic, including the passenger trams or streetcars ((路面電車 rosen densha)), which meant I either had to walk a few stops, or take a prohibitively expensive taxi. This shot was the compensation for the walk. The street is littered with the remains of firecrackers. I will try to research the event depicted here, & amend the note if I find anything. The waves on the banner are stylised tsunami patterns.
Couldn't find any specific inf, but found this:
"Hanabi Taikai" (fireworks):
"Summer firework displays (hanabi taikai) are also held in various places in and around Kitakyushu in July and August. Usually at least 3,000 fireworks are let off.
The biggest one with no less than 13,000 fireworks(!) is the Kanmon Straits display between Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki (August 13 in 2005). Be prepared for big crowds, especially on the trains to and from Kokura to Moji-ko."

'Lotteria' is a fast food chain (akin to 'McDonalds'), which also has hundreds of branches in Korea.

Hi Chris,
wonderful night shot. I do not see any flash effects, is it right that you haven't used it?
The car seems to be a "strange" object as it is wrong in the dark. Kind of mysterious.
Regards Ulf
Thanks for the notes update during my critique. :-)

Hi Chris,
nice brightness. I think techncally quite good. I think maybe the space behind the truck is a bit empty for me, Id like to see you fame the truck a bit more to the right, show more space to the frint with that man there and get it more into a rule of thirds composition.

Great travel shot! These cultural events are I think under-represented on TE, but they can add so much to our understanding of a place. The tsunami waves of the van are interesting, as are the lanterns. Good job to bring this to us!

Hello Chris, I like much this kind of extravagant image, it should be said that the Japanese do not miss audacity for decorated or to present a product that it is in publicity or simply with commercial goal, and once more you presents a very good report to us, sincerely...........Hello Chris, j’aime beaucoup ce genre d’image extravagante, il faut dire que les Japonais ne manque pas d’audace pour décoré ou présenter un produit que ce soit en publicité ou simplement à but commercial, et une fois de plus tu nous présente un très bon reportage, bien amicalement
