Photographer’s Note
This photo is taken from the rather unoriginal view point atop Mt Inasa, a short ski lift ride from downtown. Today the visibility is unusually good, often even in good weather the air is hazy. This is due to a combination of pollution and dust in the air blown over from the Gobi Desert.
Nagasaki is a lot like San Francisco, there are trams running on steep hills, a china town, a big red bridge, wharfs with bars, an old prison island and plenty to see and do. However, Nagasaki also has an active volcano, dolphins, amazing beaches, numerous mountains, 2 ski lifts, giant festivals, Japanese Castles, old Battlefields, Penguins, a Ninja museum (!), temples, shrines, a Cathedral, war memorials and peace parks.
As far as I know, Nagasaki is the only city where it is possible to hike up a choice of mountains from its central subway stations. If any one is interested in a Hiking Guide I wrote for Nagasaki Beat, that has transport links, route and sign translations etc then give me a bell.
