Photographer’s Note
There are glimpses of colour amongst these houses which are densely packed on a hillside overlooking Nagasaki Harbour. These homes are a stark contrast to the spacious Glover Gardens from where I took this photo in the southern end of Nagasaki.
Glover Gardens was the former home of Scottish Merchant Thomas Glover (1838-1911) who after the Meiji Restoration helped introduce modern science and technology into Japan - building the first train line in Japan and establishing the first modern shipyard from which Nagasaki's Mitsubishi shipyard is a direct descendant. I am including a photo of his home in a workshop.

Hi Marlene,
what a wonderful impression of these colorful houses with so many fascinating details, for example the garden on the house on the left side. I also like the gentle light and your POV. This place looks like built from lego bricks. Excellent photo work!
Warm regards

Hello Marlene,
From your POV this quarter looks a little bit like a labyrinth. The different shapes and colours make all together a very beautiful composition.
Best regards, Paul

Hello again Marlene,
these are quite different houses, as compared to those which I saw at your photo posted later :) A true patchwork! another curious sight! the houses stand so close to one another... looking into one another. Incredible! They look like toy houses of a children's toy construction set.
Thanks for the Workshop photo, too! Such a contrast, when you start to compare...
Warm regards,
Elena

Hi Marlene, as Elena says, this is a real patchwork of houses. It could be anywhere I suppose, but the fact that it is in Nagasaki, historically a place so devastated by the atomic bomb, makes it likk a reportage shot. Well done & TFs, Lisa

Hi Marlene,
What a colorful resident quarter on the slope, good pov to frame it, nice to see different types of local houses, nice soft sunlight shining, full in peaceful and harmonious feels, distinct image, good shoot.

marlene
beautiful amount of houses, creating a chaotic pattern. I liked the perfect light and this pov. I would cut that high building at left, cause it is distractive. anyway it is a nice job

Hi Marlene,
I love rooftop shots, showing the density of a place as well as the colours and this has been well captured. IO can almost feel what the town is like to be in from this angle. thankyou :)
