Photographer's Note
The world famous Todaiji Temple contains various pavilions and halls, including many designated as national treasures of Japan. Among them, the 'Daibutsuden Hall' is the world's largest wooden structure, and the home of the popular 'the Great Buddha of Nara'.
Nara is the first capital of Japan and historic monuments of Nara belong to the Unesco world heritage list.
I didn't want to take a static image from straight ahead. I think the trees surrond the Daibutsuden Hall nicely and the little hut, covering some technical equipment if I remember correctly, has the same style as the hall.
Desaturated, adjusted levels and toned.

Hi Kari,
It's a very nice composition.
I think the colours would add a lot to this photo. As far as I know, far eastern cultures have remarkable taste for colour. It may be a good idea to post coloured one too.

Alper

I think this works very well in its monochrome form, Kari (though I agree with Alper that color might be good too.) The POV is great with the trees framing the building nicely. Nice tones, not too harsh which is good for this mellow scene. Regards, Ken.

Kari, I want to add my two cents, and support the idea of color, not that there is something wrong with this one, but maybe a pastel-like color version?? Just an opinion. Enrique

Hey Kari,
I can see both points of view here, one supporting colour, the other supporting monochrome.
Ignoring this issue for a moment, its a tremendously composed image, with the smaller structure in the foreground giving a sense of size to the main temple. My only slight issue wih it would be the branch at the bottom right, it intefers a bit with the picture and leads my eye down to the bottom of an image that should have its focus central.
Cheers
Chris

Greetings Kari. I like this photo. It has an old world charm about it in its monochromatic treatment. The fact that you have included trees is nice as it reflects the role nature plays in the Japanese psyche. well done. Klaudio
