Photographer's Note

Saidai-ji is a Buddhist temple in the city of Nara, Nara Prefecture, Japan. The temple was established in AD 765 as a counterpart to Tōdai-ji and it is the main temple of the Shingon Risshu (真言律宗) sect of Buddhism after the sect's founder, Eison, took over administration in 1238. Hondo is builded by Yosemune-zukuri and tile-roofing and was rebuilt in 1808. It is a traditional style with little fanciness without using a clay wall entirely. As a masterpiece of the large-scale Buddhist construction in the late Edo period, it is designated as the important cultural property of the country. Since this temple is not sightseeing-ized like Todai-ji, it may be good for those who want to enjoy a temple calmly.
