Photographer’s Note
Here is a photo of the famous Zen garden at Ryoan-Ji in Kyoto. This is an example of a Dry Landscape Zen garden with 15 stones surrounded by white gravel.
This photo was taken from a raised, wooden platform which was packed with people. Everyone had to remove their shoes on entering this temple and no-one was allowed to step down onto the same level as the garden. Even though there were lots of people there, everyone was very quiet and this added to the peaceful atmosphere.

Wonderful view . . . peaceful and needed for this days. Good point of view and colours. Very special contrast.

Hello Dan
Having recently visited Kyoto and this magnificent place I coulden't help but sharing my views.
At first when I arrived I really hadn't heard much about this temple and The Dry Landscape Garden, but what struck me here was the increadible sence of peace and relaxation.
I feel you have succeded well in captureing this peace and silence. And combined with the warm light and not least the angle of the light this magnificent place recieves a different atmosphere to it than it had when I visited in the middle of the day.
The composition looks great, especially the diagonal alignment of the garden borders really bring justice to the photo.
Thank you for sharing.
