Photographer's Note
Hundreds of prayers written on neatly folded pieces of paper are tied to this rack in front of Sanjusangen-Do in Kyoto.
This temple contains 1001 statues of Kunnan, the buddhist goddess of mercy, along a few dozen statues of various Japanese buddhist deities.
Well, minus a few, there are three to be seen in the National museum in Tokyo.
