‘Kyoto - Arashiyama - Monkey visits kid in cage’
The Hozugawa River in Arashiyama meanders through a landscape of forested hills.
Not far from the historic Togetsukyo Bridge there’s a hill known as ‘Monkey Park’.
It’s a steep climb but it takes barely 10 minutes. In the forest about 170 Japanese macaque monkeys roam freely. For security reasons you can feed these monkeys only on one location. Therefore you enter a large cage on top of the hill where food can be purchased.
The place is frequently visited but I thought it was a special sight to be outside the cage together with the monkeys and to see the people behind the bars.
On this picture I like the surprising face of a child who discovers new things in life and the happy face of the proud father who’s going to take a picture of his son.

Schitterend foto werk, bedankt.
Prettige zondag verder,

first, my congratulations about your 300th post in the site.
And about this shot, is amazing to see a scene where it seems the monkey visits the boy and his father inside a cage, while he is outside!.
Is a great capture, very spontaneous, fresh and vital, where the face of the boy and the attitude of his father give a funny character in the composition.
A nice photo.

For once the roles seem to be reversed, the apes in freedom and the humans behind bars. Charming little scene from a family outing with happy children and parents.
have a great sunday

One thing I know for sure: this photo is much better than what the proud father could manage. You captured the connection between the monkey and the excited boy very well in a humorous way. You have also filled the frame very nicely. Maybe these monkeys have learned that this is the only place they will get fed, and behave accordingly. Otherwise monkeys who demand snacks from visitors could get a bit nasty. They're not as nice if you have many of them close by.

A very nice scene, the role reversal is simply impressive: people are in the cage, very nice photo

I first thought that this shot was from a zoo, i am glad it was not. It is a good shot you have taken here in a meeting between a monkey and a kid, the facial expression of the little boy is wonderful! You have also chosen the best place for this shot, outside the cage! I guess the monkeys have experience with people and don't attack. A sharp and clear shot and a good idea, tfs!
Hve a nice evening/

what a moment to capture, the look of delight on the little boys face is simply delightful.
I enjoy your title almost as much as I do the photograph,it`s a brilliant shot full of charm and interest.

Maybe this is the way forward.
With people behind bars, animals would be safe from poachers and persecution!
Okay, maybe some people should be behind bars!
I love the turn about in your shot!
It is so unexpected that it really does surprise!
The connection between the monkey and the little boy is charming, as each stretches out his hand!
My warm regards,

Hi Paul, How funny photo. Maybe it is not such a bad idea to put the people in cage and to allow the animals roam freely. Beautiful expressions of the kid and the proud father.
I visited Jigokudani, the snow monkeys there were my main goal of the whole Japan trips. They were wild but not aggressive. I like the monkeys at large, always exotic for someone from Europe.
Warm regrad s MAlgo

berek (35480) 2014-08-25 4:52
diffrent point of view, because it seems you are on the side of the monkey rather than the visiting team. I love the look of the young child who can touch the monkey.
Have a nice weekend.

A magnificent and sympathetic image, with the first plane of the monkey and the child, giving something while man looks will capture the scene, this is one of my least favorite animals, in my travels to the East, always bothered me concern, one of them was my sister went up one shoulder and ripped an earring, with which he ascended to a tree,'ve also seen the camera to take some confident tourist ...
An image to enjoy with its beautiful color, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Have a good start to the week.
All the best.

this is a wonderful scene and I love the title you gave to your photo as well. A superb capture of the moment, the contact between the monkey and the little boy, the handshake and the little boy's bewildered expression are a delightful sight. Sharpness is exquisite and the colours have a very fine balance. You must have been caught in some of the father's pictures too:) I wish he could see the expression in his son's face in your picture. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Excellent snapshot in superb light. I'd call it "Child and Monkey". The child's eyes are terrific. Even there is a cage grill between, the child is a bit frightened. I like this photo.
Very well done.
P.s. Sorry for my slow response, but my access to internet is not very regular during my travelling.

That's an original but also a wise idea, specially when there are kids feeding them. Your idea was also great because this way it seems they have changed roles. Great composition, I particularly like the kid's expressions, he seems amazed looking at the monkey.
macjake (54070) 2014-08-31 10:34
the best part about this photo? the look of the eyes on the childs face!
that monkey has the boys 100% attention! and the boy is learning all he can by staring him down!
thanks for your kind comments on my Mosque photo
