Kyoto - Hozugawa River in Arashiyama

Arashiyama is a district of Kyoto outside the city center in western direction.
It’s a place of outstanding natural beauty and takes a special place in the hearts of the Japanese.
The name means ‘Storm Mountain’.

Arashiyama is particularly popular in spring and autumn.
Despite the fact that this district is visited by many, also lots of unspoiled nature can be found there.

Its most famous landmark is the Togetsukyo Bridge (built during the Heian Period, 794-1185 and reconstructed in the 1930s).
I took this picture standing on the bridge overlooking the Hozugawa River with the pleasure boats and the forested mountainslopes in the background.
