Again, a photo from the pre-digital era... it shares some of the same limitations of my previous images from my pre-digital days. I plan to spend more time trying to figure out how improve or optimize these before posting. Also posted a Workshop here, for comparison. Let me know if you have a preference. Thanks!
About the picture/location...
I spent an afternoon in Himeji, south of Kobe and on the way to HIroshima. Wandering through this 17th-century castle made of wood and stone, I found many rooms and lots of nooks and corners. It also seemed kind of eery, especially some of the darker rooms with wooden walls. At the top level there is an opening looking out over the surrounding town of Himeji. I imagined how this view provided an excellent view of invading armies!
This castle and its grounds are a UNESCO World Heritage site. The castle and gardens and the city of Himeji were among my favorite places in Japan. The city provides a great contrast to the castle. I remember stopping at Mr. Donut, all within walking distance of this historic site. Description taken from the the UNESCO site:
"Himeji-jo is the finest surviving example of early 17th-century Japanese castle architecture, comprising 83 buildings with highly developed systems of defence and ingenious protection devices dating from the beginning of the Shogun period. It is a masterpiece of construction in wood, combining function with aesthetic appeal, both in its elegant appearance unified by the white plastered earthen walls and in the subtlety of the relationships between the building masses and the multiple roof layers." |

Wow!
Hi José!
I love the ambience you have achieved it on your Japanese picture in general, it is so warm, so intimate, so special, the shade the tone in this picture of yours, confirm this theory I´ve got, but it is well seen on the rest of them.
Have a great weekend my friend, enjoy your time, it is completely yours!
Hugs
Miguel

Olá, José! Muito interessante o fato de vc mostrar o castelo a partir de um detalhe tão expressivo, que bem contrasta com a cidade moderna, ao fundo. Gosto da resolução em sépia, que aprofunda o contraste. Bom trabalho, amigo! Abraço! Miguel.
