This cherry blossom or sakura reaches full bloom in early spring, vivid pink than usual cherry blossoms. Many people were appreciating the blossom at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden on a warm Sunday.
We can see a building like the Empire State Building in the background behind the blossom, which is the NTT DoCoMo Yoyogi Building 240 meters tall, contains mainly technical equipment (switching equipment, etc.) for NTT DoCoMo's cellular telephone service.
I took this shot at the bottom of the tree in the strong backlighting by using the ultra-wide-angle lens tilted upward, to include the shining pink, gracefully‐shaped branches, people enjoying and the city.
By the way cherry blossoms are family of the rose.

Very interesting point of view showing the beauty of this blossom and how it is perceived by the people living there. It is an original reportage photo.
The use of the very wide angle lens allowed to include many sakura and so it was justified. However, the "bottom to top" point of view made the building in background got a very tilted shape. I would suggest to correct a little this "tilt" in Photoshop to get back a more usual perspective view for the buildings.
I read a lot of articles about the japanese enjoying sakura, but it is the first time I can see what it looks like.

Great timing, glad to see the sakura are out in full bloom already in TKY. We have some here in Vancouver too, that I hope to go out and check soon. This position behind the tree works well to really show off the branches and the blooms. Too bad that sky was not entirely blue. The ultra wide angle also seems to have stretched out the humans in the corners I can make out in the background, so makes it appear a bit strange. But nice shot nonetheless.

Fantastic perspective and very good use of backlighting.
