This photograph is taken on the outskirts of the Shin-Kiba railway station of Kōtō-ku which is in the distance for about 10 minutes by train from Tokyo Station. It is a place in the Tokyo Bay side of the area along Keiyō Line, and there are many wood warehouses this whole place. That there are many warehouses treating with wood to Kiba goes back least recently till the Edo period. The demand of wood swelled by the Edo castle construction and formation of the castle town. And, timber dealer people are assembled in Edo from national every place, and lumber wholesale district have been formed in here. It is close to Tokyo Bay here, and it is related that it was also a place which is easy to land the lumber carried by ship. Additionally, the lumber wholesale store of Edo has the feature in the ability not to treat retail. Although the talk returns, there is a feature in the structure of warehouse. It is the structure of steel frame with slate roofing. So, the appearance is the rough structure which truly fulfilled only the necessary condition. In this company's warehouse along which I passed and saw, many square lumbers were piled in heaps all over a warehouse and in the site. And, a employees lifted the wood which became a bunch by the forklift, and were moving them to the road side. Probably later, a heavy-duty truck will be loaded with lumber, and it will carry to the construction spot in the city of Tokyo. Even so, it is only a large and small warehouse and there is no private house this whole place. The convenience store did business lonely in some places. When thinking it well, the area facing the Pacific Ocean from this place to Chiba is Keiyō industrial area. So, I reminded that the large-small manufacturing industry, a steel housing complex, Oil industrial complex and a track warehouse etc have extended for a long line on the coastline beside this wood warehouse group. In under blazing heat, I returned to the near station, after taking a walk for about 1 hour this circumference. Although it is good since it is bright daytime, I felt to uncanny space in night because there is also no traffic and is full of warehouses.

Une image qui sort des sentiers battus. Nous entrons de plain-pied au coeur d'une activité industrielle.
J'aime beaucoup le rendu général de cette composition.
Une note très documentée, un régal.
Très bonne journée.

Always interesting to see pictures of people at work, an intriguing subject.
To my humble opinion, here you taken a very difficult perspective, with notable backlight effect.
Clarity is well collected though.

Thank you very much for your interesting notes.
We get less pictures where people work, here see we clear the man and his forklift with wood load.
Excellent composition, lovely presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

This photo displays excellent composition, superb DOF and adequate light management in adverse light conditions. The shot seems to be against the sun, from a shady place of a backlit subject. Nevertheless, you have managed to show detail in shady places without washing out anything in the sun (though it comes close). I think you have made the best of very difficult light.

I believe that these wood saw factory or warehouse are the same in many countries worldwide. Without your note I'd believe that the photo was taken in Switzerland or Germany (if I do not look at the writing at the top). Excellently captured this place. When I'm back in Switzerland I'll take one photo there and post here, but it will be not very soon. Greetings, Miro
