Photographer's Note

This is a crossing of the place which came out of the subway "Roppongi Station." Roppongi is located at the northern part of Minato-ku and is one shopping/amusement quarter in Tokyo. Although the Edo period was a samurai residence, this circumference went into Meiji Era and changed into the residential district. Moreover, the military facilities of the Japanese army were placed near Roppongi, and it was also the soldier's town. The military facilities of the Roppongi neighborhood were burned down by the air raid of the Pacific War except the embassy of each country. Military facilities are requisitioned in connection with the end of the war by the allied force who was in charge of occupation of Japan. Therefore, foreigner-oriented a store and a restaurant come made little by little. When it entered in the 1960s, many restaurants and amusement facilities marched out and it changed the figure from the residential town to shopping quarter. Tens of houses stood in a row only at the disco club at the bubble economy term from the second half of the 1980s, and activity was presented while popularization progressed. After that, with collapse of the bubble economy, in 1993 and afterwards, many disco were closed and it was changed into the karaoke lounge etc.,. Now, the figure of a salaried workers or office ladies were conspicuous all day and night by the appearance of a multistory office building, and the image as a business district also became strong a weekday. On the other hand, if night comes on Friday and Saturday of a weekend, the dangerous aspect of the amusement quarter where a bar, a club, a cabaret club, etc. stand close together will be presented. However, Roppongi is also a quiet place with a school or many embassies, when it separates from a little main passage. This is a town with very many foreigners unlike the shopping/amusement quarter in Shinjuku or Shibuya. This photograph was taken in the early morning.
