Photographer’s Note
This is a scene that the water bus "Himiko" finished the last cruise of this day.
Although i wanted to take her early in March when the sunset time was a little early and a lot of lights of the buildings were lit, this day was first cruise in the fine holiday after the annual maintenance.
The background is Rainbow Bridge crossing northern Tokyo Bay between the Shibaura Wharf and the Odaiba waterfront development.
This photo is not a composite but a single shot, and with handheld at iso 640.
Water bus "Himiko" produced by Mr. Leiji Matsumoto, well-known creator of several anime and manga series, runs from Asakusa to Odaiba Seaside Park since 2004.
Total tonnage: 114t, Length and Beam: 33.3m x 8m, Capacity: 171 passengers, Sailing Speed: 12.0 knots.

hi Hisashi,
this is the photo for all of us who believes that Japan is already living in the 22nd century :) very futuristic scene, and the pale pink sky adds to the sci-fi mood, I like that a lot. as always in your work, the quality is impeccable, not a single thing over- or underexposed, and every detail crisp and sharp. excellent photo, my compliments.

Hello Hisashi,
Excellent late evening capture of this futuristic looking craft. Hard to imagine it is so big, it looks more like a toy boat.
Beautiful colours, the pink and purple hues in the sky are wonderful.
Excellent capture in all respects.

Hi Hisashi,
Hi I remember Himiko, saw and shot her when I was going to Odaiba on the normal ferry, her futuristic look fits well to ultramodern Tokyo. Nice composition with two interesting plans and the details on the front are superb.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Hisashi,
The bridge looks like somewhere in New York while the boat seems to come out of a SF movie, very futuristic. But it is the mix between that old bridge and the funny boat that i like to see here. Bit bright on the let top, but the overal composition is excellent where your pov is well choosen....very good eye.

Henk

Hi, Hisashi.
I fully agree with Kristine : definitely a spectacular composition, with a clear sci-fi flavor. I don't think handheld at sunset gets much better that this, your light management is superb. Terrific job! Have a good day, my friend. I'll be seeing you.

Hi Hisashi,
I'm really impressed by low noise even at iso 640. This machine is really a good stuff. Very beautiful shot, indeed an excellent light and exposure management. But this futuristc boat is such an eye cather even with all that beauty as the background. Great job!

hi Hisashi
I find it very interesting to read your note about anime creator also producing water bus of such modern and futuristic design. With your composition of the sunset evening sky giving a warm color tone and the cable bridge setting, this looks somewhat like Brooklyn or Manhattan with the skyscapers, as Floydian says. I wonder what experience it will be to take the water bus and enjoy this beautiful scenery.
Excellent work. And very good for TE sharing.

Hello Hisashi,
So you are coming back to this funny boat which is looking like an animal. Thanks for your note explaining it was design by the famous Matsumoto.
Interesting also to note you took this shot handled at 640iso. The 5D mk2 seems to work well at high iso and it will open new possibilities to us.

Hi Hisashi,
Impressive how it is so sharp clear without tripod. You chose a very good PoV, that would give a beautiful photo even if it hadn't the futuristic boat reflecting the tones of sunset. I like the harmony of the shapes of the boat with the BG, namely the bridge. It's a wonderful "blue hour" that is actually as pink as is blue.
Regards, José.

Hi Hisashi,
Wow, that is futuristic! And quite fascinating design too, I'd love to travel on such. Blue hour lights and reflections do good justice to it, beautiful. It looks much smaller than the number you give on the note reveal.

Hi Hisashi,
I like the color tones and the fact that you discover a place, waiting for the things to happen: the weather and hour shall be the right one, the water bus shall be there, the lights shall be lit. It is something that I will try to apply to my next shots. For shure this is a nice shot, with excellent technical results, good composition and subject.
Very good work.

Hello Hisashi,
hmmm this "Himiko" water bus looks like an alien spaceship which, for some unknown reasons, landed on the water :) It sure adds a lot to the atmosphere and mood of this scene. Excellent composition, imho! very impressive view, beautiful colours, interesting details. I like it very much that the image is not over-sharpened! thus it helps to retain the perfect atmosphere of the evening.
Best regards,
Elena
