Photographer's Note

This photograph was taken in Kiyosumi Garden in Koto-ku of the Tokyo downtown area. This is the typical stroll garden which the wealthy merchant of the Edo period built. There is a big pond in the center, there is a promenade in the circumference, the stone lanterns are placed somewhere and the pine trees are planted around the pond. A tearoom is located in one corner so that a pond may be overlooked. If we will go to a Japanese garden, we sometimes will meet with the spectacle which is taking a photograph by wearing Japanese tradition clothes. A man wears a crested kimono & hakama and the woman wears the bridal outfit. The woman has the red umbrella and the man has purple ones by hand. Seemingly it is a season of winter and many ducks were sailing in the pond. The combination of a Japanese garden and tradition clothes may be a material as nostalgia for the good old days.

Hello my friend, just yesterday i was watching this Japanese movie from 1980 "Kagemusha" and your image just struck me. It's amazing how these costumes stood the passing of time. Even the umbrellas are similar to the ones in the movie, and the story was from the 15th century..just great. A lovely couple, and they'll have great memories from this wedding for sure. Good take!

A very attractive couple here with very good colours. They are perfectly placed in the picture. The wooden railing also contribute to the balance here. A beautiful and very peaceful scene.

Very colourful interesting relaxed feel image surrounded by such traquil setting, indeed quite an eyecatching shot a real blend of fashions and culture. The convenient arrangement of a posed couple, yet without the boring bit. Nice characterisation and the standout colour tones of the umbrellas add to the presentation nicely, the mood and technique involved are very well recorded. Photographically this standout strikingly. Well done.

Hello Mikio,
a very charming scene, elegant and romantic. It has a great layout and it's very intriguing that the couple are looking intensely in another direction than your lens. Thus we have not direct contact with them and we may observe them as part of the wonderful setting, or a casual scene in a Japanese garden.
