Photographer's Note

This is the Furukawa garden near my house. It is the structure which used the slope in Musashino Plateau skillfully. A european-style building is arranged on a plateau and the Western style garden is arranged on the slope. And, the Japanese garden is arranged at the lowlands part under a plateau. It was prepared by the present form as baron's residence of Toranosuke Furukawa in 1917. It is national property, and Tokyo is borrowing and carrying out general public presentation now. The technique of an Italy style garden where a terrace stands in a row in the shape of stairs, and a superficial and geometrically constituted France style garden is merged, and the Western style garden is constituted. The European-style building and the Western style garden were designed by Josiah Conder who dealt with many Western style construction at prewar days. Appearance of architecture is a Renaissance style. The building frame of brick is covered with building blocks.
Here is also crowded with those who come to see the various roses currently planted in the garden at the season of spring and autumn.
