Photographer’s Note
Harajuku cosplayers are so cool and odd and interesting.
These two girls had dyed their hair. One was dressed in white and one in black (hence the title I thought to give this image: Black on White...). The girl in white had painted her face white and black, and the girl sat in front of her - well, between her legs... - had covered her face in a large black mask.
Their costumes are so different... I expected to see girls dressed as maids hanging with other girls dressed as maids, girls in baby costumes with girls in baby costumes, gothic lolitas with gothic lolitas, girls in bandages with girls in bandages... but they were all sitting around together.
No matter what their chosen costume, they were all cosplayers and all intermingling together. Rather than the cosplaying-cliques that I expected to see, it was one big cosplayer's party.
Every Sunday at Harajuku Jingu-mae.

Hi Richard
A useful note to accompany your photo, I've never been to Japan but I've heard about Harajuku before. It seems Japan is a land of extremes and you managed to capture a snapshot of it, a fascinating place.
As I'm a beginner, here's my opinion for what it's worth, I think it may be better to get closer to the subject and try to capture their expressions. I would have loved a closer look at the girl in the white clothes.
Thanks,
Trish

I really miss Harajuku nowdays. Brazilian cosplay is far far away from japanese cosplay. I need to return to Japan to buy some cheap books at the used book stores nearby Harajuku (bookoff, for example) and see again those girls and boys.
My girlfriend is japanese but she does not like the Harajuku girls, but I believe they are unique. I think I already shot the white one, but she was a little bit young those days...
A nice shot. I can't see the black one face, but I like it anyway, is very natural, very 'not posed', as it is.
Regards,
Jáed
