This photograph is taken in Meiji Shrine located in Harajuku, Tokyo in autumn four years ago. Meiji Shrine is a shrine which deifies Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken. The spectacle in which a traditional Shinto wedding ceremony is sometimes held here is seen. This photograph is taken the moment that families and relatives of both families who finished the marriage ceremony are gathering for all, and is taking commemoration photography. Thus, in long life, it looks only like a marriage ceremony and a funerary ceremony that a family wears the full dress, passes to all the persons concerned, and checks bonds. The woman who is standing to the front is a clerk of the shrine which advances a marriage ceremony.

Hello Mikio San,
I like exotic and formal scenes like this very much. They enrich one's cultural experience. I like the composition, with the audience sitting so orderly the contrasts in black and white, and the red carpet as a highlight color.

It is always most interesting to see ceramonies people carry on diff. traditions. I am impressed with the orderly manner everyone related to it. It's a known custome in Japan, to forign eyes, to be extremely respectfull & involve, if you understand me saying so.
Lovely taken indoor's, an inclusive view on the participants.

This is a fine photo but looks quite strange to me. As you point out it is only at marriages and funerals that Japanese people dress like this, and in my mind this could well have been a funeral. People look so serious and solemn, hardly anyone looking happy as I am used to seeing guests at a wedding. This makes it an interesting cultural study. Only the bride's white dress and the red carpet make the view a bit brighter.
