Christmas Meeting in Tokyo Photo

Photographer’s Note

As you know, this is a gathering of people dressed in Santa Claus costumes, called Santarchy or SantaCon seen all over the world.
In Tokyo, it is planned and put on by Mr. Magari, and Santa enthusiasts will gather at Shibuya on December 20 also this year.

The flash was fired faintly to make color clear because it was drizzling.

Hello Hisashi,

that's a really nice angle that made this cute, seemingly random, triangular position of the people quite attractive. I think I would have sacrificed the bottom part while framing the scene in order to include the top of the 'triangle' uncut, but anyway it's a very nice photo. I really like inclusion of the pedestrian crossing that enhanced the graphical feel, and the two persons positioned at the opposite corners, heading 'out' of the frame.

Hello Hisashi,

Nice to see your last photos about Santa Clauss. It is an original way with fun to deal the end of year celebration.
Here the red colors are well flashed and are really visible againt the grey of the pavement.

fascinating photo, I keep pausing while writing this comment to look at it, and every time I find something new. like the couple posing for a photo in the middle of the Santa-crowd, or the two transparent umbrellas :) the red costumes really stand out against the gray pavement, and your elevated point of view offers a creative composition. excellent work, my compliments.

Hi Hisashi!

Perfect season's image, full of humour with an artistic flair.

I've been participating in one of these Santa Claus gathering, where we were more than 30 loosely related friends, hopping from one bar to the next every 30 minutes in 3 limousines. Owners of bars were aware of our visit and they were offering 2 or 3 shooters to each of us, as a reward to put some ambiance in the place... After 2 hours, nobody remember what we did exactly... We even appeared on TV while visiting the Montreal Forum during an hockey match and we also appear on Much Music, dancing around the VJ...!!! That was 15 years ago, No YouTube in those days... So thanks for this good souvenir through your photo :-P)

You were standing at the right spot at the right time to catch an amazing view. Only this elevated angle allows to see every Santas around. I can see there is a Manga-Santa with a hoop in the upper middle of the image.

Crazy little gathering you've captured! well captured from a good point of view. This makes me feel a little queasy seeing all these santas. Someone managed to convince me to be santa at my school this year for all the kids. Don't quite know how or why I agreed to that one!

Very interesting and amusing composition. I loved the scattred red in a grey surrounding. The angle you chose to take the picture makes it pretty interesting.

The red does give a splash of colours to the otherwise grey scene. A lot of activity around, a busy scene, we see a couple of girls being photographed as well & a small concert going on. A very nice capture of daily life.
