A simple restaurant under the railway lines at Ginza in Tokyo. The cooking is done in a small enclosure at the front of the restaurant with a window onto the street. We sat outside around a table resting on old boxes and had some of the best food of the trip.

Nice balance of light and shade. It was a nice idea to focus on the window (water drops, latch), creating a nice delimitation between the indoor and the outdoor.

A lovely shot with just a slight impression of the figure through the glass and steam, adding great mystery and atmosphere. I guess that that there is a very good reason of composition that you have thought through for leaving the window frame not vertical.

Hi Chris - What a beautiful soft rendition of the face. The lighting is wonderful and bounces nicely off the steam. The sharply focued water droplets on the window add another dimension. Best regards Rosmary

A beautiful composition. The face with the cap/bandana and the smoke inside it and the glass is really superb. A fine frame and very well evoked work.
Have a nice time

a moment of incredible suggestion. the nearly evanescent boy's face and the smoke that flies along a diagonal. the glass that separates and the fire that is only perceived are all of the great strong points for this splendid photo. magical.
have a good evening

Molto particolare ed interessante questa tua immagine! Bella la figura che si intravede attraverso il vetro illuminata in controluce dal fuoco. Affascinante e seducente!

this is a wonderful capture. The face of the lady suggests concentration, the drops on the glass and the steam create strange patterns. I would never guess this shot was taken in the restaurant.
Very nice photo work.

just wonderful photo. You were able to find an outstanding visual effect in the most simple and possible way, sitting down....So much for all those who seek the impossible.Everything is absolutely perfect here.

Her face. The light. The light on her face. The light, coming from the fire maybe? I keep looking at it as I was looking at a detail of a Vermeer's painting. The vapor on the window gives that grain...
I even think half the picture would have been a wonderful photo too. So well caught! I just love it!

This is superb capture. The window is like the natural filter. The steam gives texture and an expressionist feeling to this for me.
His face, barely illuminated, gives me the impression of someone who is content amonst the chaos of steam and smells, a cook is an artist in their own right and this is an appropriate representation.

Hello my dear Chris
Wonderful and fantastic shot again. Seeming to be taken through the untrasparent glass window"
So meaningful presentation besed on your own original approach is marvelous. Well composition and tasteful color as usual. Tasteful color is also great. Thanks for sharing with your finest work and have a good day, best regards,

I had the same experience almost everywhere in Japan - simple places, unpretentious and small, serving great fresh food...
steam and vapours seldom fail to create an atmosphere, a mood, a vision out of few elements, as your image proves very well. the tiny drops on the glass panes, the soft, subdued colours, the steam going upwards, the cook focused on his task - your photo combines all these elements into something which stands out from the rest.

Wow! This one is absolutely beautiful. Very artistic and creative use of everything (the steam, the glass, the condensed drops, the color palette, the dof...)
