Photographer's Note

This is Yokota Air Base of the United States air force in Japan and the Air Self Defense Force in the Tokyo Tama area which is proud of the greatest scale in the mainland of Japan except Okinawa. It is an extraterritoriality area where administrative power of Japan does not reach, and the most is occupied in the government land. U.S. Armed Forces in Japan headquarters and the 5th Air Headquarters of the Far East are placed. It is a main base in the Far East, and has a function as a transportation relay hub base of the Far East overall community. The number of the base persons concerned is a total of about 11,000 persons of 3,600 military men, 700 army civilian employees, 4,500 families, and 2,200 Japanese employees. The whole base is crossed to about 4 km of north and south, and about 3.5 km of east and west, and has an area of about 7,136,000 square meters. I walked along the section from Hakonegasaki Station to Haijima Station in JR Hachiko Lineto along the fence of a base on that day. Although the surroundings of the base were surrounded by a high wall and barbed wire, the inside of a base was able to be seen from the wire net in some places. Occasionally, it could be seen that the transport plane of C-130 makes sound and takes off from a base. As for the body, four propellers were attached in gray. It did not feel sound much. On the way, a building like some gates or lodgings was able to be seen. Moreover, along the way in new Oume-kaidou of Higashi-Fussa Station and Haijima Station, many shops treating articles, such as the general dealer, Western-style apparel and accessories, etc. were built and located in a line. Seemingly, anything will be said as a friendship street. Since I thinks that it is unsuitable to tell a base problem with individual subjectivity at this site, my opinion is withhold. However, this is a subject every Japanese person who lives the future has to consider to be.
