The narrow alley in afternoon, a photo from Tokyo, Kanto

Photographer's Note

I crossed the Hakusan street and was walking along the alley of Sengoku where a residence stands in a row on that day. It is an afternoon of a weekday and there is little traffic only by neighboring residents and the schoolchild of school return walking slightly. The alley in Tokyo is complex like a maze. However, since there is almost no dead end, it is interesting. If you continue walking, it will come out to a main street. Probably, the master of the house has appeared in work in the center of Tokyo. The local individual store is open in some places, and does business quietly. While walking, I met to the residents who are taking the dog for a walk well. This lady accompanied by this dog also came out from the alley, and disappeared in the slanting alley with the steps which seem to be busy. The light of winter was illuminating the alley dazzlingly.
Anyway, it is interesting there are the smell of land and rediscovery of the old name of a place when we walk along the unknown alley.

Hello Mikio,
Another plain view of a quiet back-alley in your typical style. The most dramatic thing happening is a dog sniffing on a lamp-post. And yet there is an amazing number of details to watch among the many signs, posters and parked bicycles. The environment and the conversion to B&W make me think of Japanese movies from long ago, maybe something by the great director Ozu.

very beautiful in black and white for its large range of grey tones and high contrast. The woman, as a main subject is just perfect to be the darkest of all.

Superb observation with a solitary human figure in stark contrast walking the road, the strongest effect making this shot. You have chosen just about the perfect viewpoint and approach. This suits in mono better than colour, great tonal contrast through out this photo and the soft diffuse back ground has further enhanced the impact. A well timely shot so well taken, Congrats.
