This is an anuual seasonal event of "Oiran Procession"
"Oiran" were courtesans in Japan. The oiran were considered a type of yūjo,"woman of pleasure" or prostitute. However, they, are distinguished from ordinary yūjo in that they were entertainers, and many became celebrities outside the pleasure districts. Their art and fashions often set trends and, because of this, cultural aspects of oiran traditions continue to be preserved to this day.

I loved this photo which is particularly sharp and well exposed. The rating is instructive. The character who is head seems very serious. This is a beautiful photo, bravo!.

les personnages sont très intéressants, le costume de la "Oiran" est particulièrement beau, coloré et élaboré tout comme son maquillage. Une très belle photo avec une superbe lumière.

An interesting procession here with many good details and attractive colours. I particularly like those shoes!

There is a very good light in this photo and the colours are superb. The participants' clothes are as always fantastic and the huge umbrella is a fine detail. I am amazed at the nearest lady who seems to be dragging her feet along.

Konichiwa Takero san
Long time no see ...
I always wonder how the japanese women are able to walk in these incredible wooden high platform shoes.
Superb portrait of this OIran with the limited DOF nicely concentrated on the main person in the procession.
have a great sunday

Hello Takero - As always a fascinating look at part of Japan's rich tradition. Wonderful costumes and makeup. I love the foot and shoe belonging to the first courtesan and cannot walking in such high and inflexible shoes. Were they so high to avoid mud and filth or did they add to the sensuality of the women's walk?
Warmest greetings from Windhoek

Interesting and classical Oiran Procession for the elaborate costumes and makeup from traditional history.
Colorful and nice detail.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi my friend
Funny scene with the lady who losts her shoe, a good decisive moment
Godd DOF selective setting, the Post processing is well done

This is a beautiful shot, with your trademark control of depth of field to perfectly bring the main subject into crystal clear view. I love the inclusion of the parasol above, crowning this scene, and the light on the faces of the girls behind is very special.
Thanks for sharing.

Can they walk well with those sandals? It's a very good portrait, I like the umbrella and their poses, we can see all their faces and the costumes. Good composition and focus!
