This is "oiran", it is very difficult to explain in English but, who is the top/supper-high class prostitute lady 130~300 yeras ago in Japan. The "oiran" lady should be not only beautiful and sexy but also have sophisticated culture, etiqutte and so on. Their customer were supper rich merchant usually.
Generally a prostitute could not choose the customer, but "oiran" only could refuse the offer, if she would not like that customer. If the business(trade?) came into effect, she went to the customer's place with procession like this. This area(at the back of Asakusa) was famous as "house of all repute" in Edo era(130~300 yeras ago). This ceremony is held at the 2nd satuday in April every year. Just for your reference, participants are usual girls and ladies from this area, they joined this procession as Volunteer. This year's "oiran" lady is certanly beautiful but the makeup seems to be too much.

This is a new thing I learn once again about your culture. The costumes are elaborate and the makeup, as you said, quite excessive. What I marvel about is once again your compo., the use of DOF and with an informative note! Excellent!

Hello dear Takero.Obviously I was in Japan at the wrong time as far as this ceremony is concerned. I would have loved to have seen such beautiful kimonos and traditional hairstyles and makeup. Nice composition by including the parasol and elongating the vertical.Regards. Klaudio.

This one of your finest shots, the focus and depth are just perfect for the scene, incredible clarity and resolution with the colours as well. I feel there is some emotion and concentration in this procession.

This is a lesson in how a good technique makes one great difference. Beautful colours and sharpness, expressive dof and composition. I like the proportional size of subject inside the frame, and the umbrella. Masterpiece.

this is a really splendid image, so interesting and full of fantastic colors.
I like the focus on one woman and the rest unfocused, and the umbrella in the upper side of the image. Congratulations, TFS.

Explanatory notes of your ceremony is very beautiful, meaningful presentation.
Beautiful colors, great image Referring focus on women in the middle.

The picture is amazing. The vibrant colors, rich in variety, well saturated, with a tremendous bokeh, are really great. But the tight framing, with the focus just on the lady, makes it even more striking. And with the umbrella that tops the whole, it becomes even more impressive. A curious ceremony that you show us! Congratulations

Hello Takero, This is excellent pictorial documentation of your culture. Bold and vivid colors with these young ladies in beautiful costumes. Amazing expressions on their faces, far different from your postings of the smiling ladies. These appear much different and very serious. Wonderful job. Regards. Gave a good week. I am a golfer and will have a great time playing next week. Roger
