It rides on a limited express from Tokyo, and arrives at Nikkō in 1 hour and about 40 minutes. Although many tourist resorts and hot-springs resorts were around Nikkō, I went to Nikkō Tōshō-gū. And, this photograph is taken in the precincts of a temple in Nikkō Tōshō-gū. Sculpture of eight kinds of monkeys is given to the building of the plain wood structure on the left of an entrance. It is from birth to childbirth. It is transposed to people's life and is very interesting. Especially, three monkeys are famous and are introduced also to overseas.
1. Monkey and building
* Left side: up to down
(1) Relaxation of a mother and a child)
The time when a mother's monkey and baby monkeys are comfortable on the side of the tree of the biwa(a Japanese short-necked fretted lute) which attached the fruit heavily is passed. A mother's monkey does not neglect watch, but holds up a hand to a frame, and is observing the surrounding situation.
(2) Three monkeys(Three wise monkeys)
If he has that it is inconvenient, it will also be called the education of secrets of success in life "get a world through by not seeing, not hearing, or not speaking."
(3) Monkey which left its home
There is a figure of the monkey which left its home and became independent. It curls up in a conservative position, stands still at it, and is sideways to the world. Is the anxiety over the future expressed? Expression is quite severe.
(4) A friend and high ambition
It is changing into the lively figure as for which a friend is made to the monkey which curled up and stood still and which has a motion. It is said that it has suggested that right blue has high ambition and is looking up at sky.
(5) New deployment
There are a brace and two seen monkeys in a left end. One side gazes at the bottom, and another side is looking at the front uneasy, applying a hand to the back. One monkey which does not have a partner in the central part is sitting down on the tree with a severe expression.
*Right side: up to down
(1) Monkey under love
The monkey of a brace is not somehow fitted nicely, although they must be pleasant to become only two animals. Probably, the left is a female. The direction in which it solidified in the touch at which something hesitated is a male.
(2) Newly-married monkey
In the bottom, in all the 8 pages, the monkey seen here is carrying out expression most calmly. Probably, it just called the monkey of this brace newly-married monkey for the present, since a sight conceived at the end was caught. However, the wave is not quiet, if the lower left is observed. Are the life meant ups and downs ?
(3) Conceived monkey
The expression of the conceived monkey which seems to be fortunate is impressive.
(4) Building (1635)
The building with the plain wood structure and the copper tile
2. Nikkō Tōshō-gū: Workshops
Nikkō Tōshō-gū is a Shinto shrine located in Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. It is part of the "Shrines and Temples of Nikkō", a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tōshō-gū is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Initially built in 1617, during the Edo period, while Ieyasu's son Hidetada was shogun, it was enlarged during the time of the third shogun, Iemitsu. Ieyasu is enshrined here, and his remains are entombed here. Five structures at Nikkō Tōshō-gū are categorized as National Treasures of Japan, and three more as Important Cultural Properties. Additionally, two swords in the possession of the shrine are National Treasures, and numerous other objects are Important Cultural Properties. Famous buildings at the Tōshō-gū include the richly decorated Yōmeimon, a gate that is also known as "higurashi-no-mon".

This is a fascinating and amusing collection of monkey sculptures. They are very vivid and quite funny. It's also nice that you included a photo of the temple to give us an idea of what we are looking at.
