11/18 Jizô

Jizô are very familiar objects of the folk belief in Japan from sculpted stone. You can easily find a row of jizô in the middle of a thick forest to protect the travellers. There are various types of jizô, but most of them are icons dedicated to the divine protection of the children.
You can find find this impressive row of jizo in Gamma-Ga-Fuchi, a little walk away from Nikko following a beautiful path beside the river. It is said that one of the jizo called Bake-jizo makes fun of travellers who tries to count the number of these sculpted deities in this path because it is believed that they are countless.

I made two pictures of these jizô: in the first one I focused the first jizo in the right side and in the second one I focused the middle jizô of the row and I left the first and last statues slightly unsharpened because I wanted to point out the row don't finish in my crop as in fact it is.

I used the 105 mm to compress the image for highlighting the countless jizos.
