This photograph is taken in the industrial complex near Hamakawasaki Station in Tsurumi Line. This is one corner in Keihin industrial area which spreads in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture centering on Ōta-ku of Tokyo, Kawasaki-shi and Yokohama-shi of Kanagawa. Now, there are about 22,000 factories and 410,000 workers in this Keihin industrial area(Tokyo, Kawasaki-shi and Yokohama-shi). Reclamation was started by Meiji Era（1868–1912）, and it applied to Taishō period（1912–1926） and Shōwa period（1926–1989）, and continued development as an industrial area this whole place. As for a historical background, heavy industry such as steel, shipbuilding and a machine begins to replace industry of Japan with a center from light industries, such as a fiber, paper manufacture, and food from the Meiji 30s to the 40s. These heavy industories is also needed a harbor for a vast site because of accepting and sending goods and a lot of resources unlike light industries. Keihin industrial area has the Tokyo harbor, the Kawasaki harbor, and the Yokohama harbor facing Tokyo Bay, and is used with the international trade harbor and the domestic distribution center harbor. Moreover, the cargo facility station of a railroad is around this Hamakawasaki, and it has achieved the function of the physical distribution. Now, the large and small factory has concentrated in this area, and a type of industry is also various, such as metal-surface treatment, a metallic mold, goods molding, autoparts paint, a steel frame, metalworking, machining, and piping business etc. It was mixed with them and some reprocessing plants of industrial waste were also seen. As main industrial areas other than this area, there are Chūkyō Industrial area, Hanshin industrial area, and Kitakyushu industrial area in Japan. Although the industrial commodity has entered the severe time by competition with a foreign country now, history proves that a country does not become it rich that the manufacturing industry does not become strong. However, when I come to this place and the strength of an industrial base is seen, this country will seem to continue prosperity at least 300 more years for economy, although there is still fixing of national democracy in the middle of development.
