This photograph is taken by Ōami in the northeast part of Chiba Prefecture about 50 km away from Tokyo. Once, although here was area of primary industry such as agriculture, housing land development is following as a suburbs since this is a commuter belt to Chiba or Tokyo in recent years. Now, the harvest of rice had already started in here. When I see from a footpath, there was the rice field with ear of golden color richly, and the rice field which the harvest already finished. The dragonflies were flying about the circumference of the field. I saw the spectacle in which the farmer was harvesting rice using a combine harvester in the distance fortunately. The farmer who is operating the combine had mown the rice silently. I came together close and got a farmer permission of the photograph. Now, it is very convenient since machines can do all process of the harvest without many people's help by hand. The combine harvester threshes mowing rice going back and forth between a rice field, and it supplies only the tip of an ear to the grane tank. The rice was transshipped into the stand of another truck set to the footpath when the tank filled. One of farmers murmured. A producer rice price in this year becomes cheaper than last year. Probably, that rice is carrying out the surplus in the market serves as a backdrop. I was here about 30 minutes and went to way home. It was one hot day.

I have never seen a rice harvester before. Thanks for being the first to show me one. Red and white go well on green vegetation. I can't help but note that the harvester is so clean. Great photo!

Hi dear Mikio. No more bending over the rice stalks as in the old days- if one can afford the machine. The job is done much more quickly now, but something is lost also- the chance for the community to come together and help each other during planting and harvesting times. Interesting details and excellent exposure. Best regards. Klaudio.

Up until now, thought about the hand-work done collecting the ripe rice on fields, ny women who was kneeling/benting position. So it's enlighting to see a moden machine that doe's the job.
Fine clear photo, that looks super-tech on farmer's aid. Well collected while on the move.
Have a nice weekend,

I think that to most viewers it comes as a surprise to find a modern machine harvesting rice. We are all so used to seeing lots of people doing the hard work, breaking their backs. But of course there are machines for this in a country like Japan. Nevertheless it is interesting to see this, and it's also a good composition and an instructive photo with excellent colours and clarity.

nice the snapshot with the 'uncrease' farmer driving his machine during the period of the rise harvest.Excellent documentary scene from the daily life of the farmers during the harvest with the brilliant light to bring out the details and the clarity of the scene.

This machine saves the farmers a lot of time and hard work. But I can imagine it is not a good thing for the employment in low-wage countries.
It's the first time that I see a picture of such a machine. So thank you very much for your instructive contribution on TE.
Best regards, Paul

Interesting rural scene and the machine, cleverly composed with the man at work harvesting and using the bright vivid colours to contrast with the green background and this make the image a little more interesting with all the hi visibility in colours. Clarity is great and pretty sharp image. I think you have done really well with this happy candid rural image although we miss his eye contact.

I have never seen a rice harvester before. Thanks for showing! Coming originally from a farm myself this is very interesting to me. Direct front angle is excellent on showing how the process goes. Very nice sunny sidelight too.

This is an excellent detail photo of modern farmer and his machines. You have captured it in superb light with outstanding details. As we can see the farmer is very busy with his work, not having time to pose for the photo. Excellent snapshot. Greetings, Miro.
