This photograph is taken in the dry riverbed in Kōnodai, Ichikawa-shi, Chiba prefecture. When I was walking along the dry riverbed in Edo River, I found that bank construction was performed broadly. It seems to be extension construction of the bank for pouring the running water of a river safely when the water of a river increases in number by a typhoon etc. The bicycle and pedestrian reserved road along a river had become one-way traffic. And, in the riverside, the crane truck was placed and the workers were performing mining of soil/sand and conveyance of iron material. It is a public works which a river office and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism(MLIT) lead. I looked at the same spectacle of bank construction even in the Arakawa dry riverbed in Kawaguchi-shi, Saitama prefecture recently. These are the public works after the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred in March, 2011. Probably, such construction is also a remote cause which the influence of the tsunami damage of an earthquake disaster promotes. Although a large amount of tax was injected and precautions are taken, I think that citizen are also convincing and welcoming such a kind of public works. Public works may sometimes have priority from a civilian enterprise over a world. The right bank of a river is Tokyo, and we can see that the train of Keisei Electric Railway crosses an iron bridge in the distance.

This is a quite original composition, using the big red machine as a foreground. But it was a good idea, its bright colour makes it very obvious and eye-catching and the gren grass next to it is a fine complement. The machine also represents a modern society which is well complemented by the large modern buildings in the distance. The bank of the river creates a nice diagonal.

Belgium one of the big water builders with Jan De Nul a big firm in the world.
Both pictures are very well made, with perfect quality.
Your picture is wonderful taken, out of a wonderful angle, gives depth and perspective.
Also a nice panorama view in background.
Composition and presentation be superb.
Very well done, TFS.

A wonderful illustration of civil work and the on going job widening the river bank with the red excavator glueing the eyes in subdued environment. I find it a remarkable composition, so simple yet so full of detail including the background. You have done a great job capturing the progress and awareness, a well seen opportunity nicely taken. Congrats.

Red/orange bagger gave the vivid tone to this winter grey scenery, Mikio.
Yet, exquisite sharpness applied, DOF and fine town details along and up the river banks.
Fine managed shot.

Having worked many, many moons in Public Works, the California Department of Transportation, I am still attracted to civil engineering. Perhaps not exciting to the general public, I enjoy projects around our planet.
Your image is interesting for combining the crane excavation, the river pier, tugboat, the steel truss bridges, then the unique modern skyline.

Hi Mikio, Great notes along with fascinating on going public work involved public safety. The crane truck is well demonstrated what you have marked in the notes. Nice colours and lights too. The buildings in the BG add extra life to the frame. Thank very much

Another meticulously framed photo with excellent sense of depth. The different lines of bridges and the buildings add dynamism. The orange Hitachi equipment adds a warm color.

This is a very interesting combination between urban structures and a daily construction working scene. The composition has a superb layout of shapes, lines and colors. The red excavator is very well placed against the river water backdrop. Light and sharpness is very good, the colors well balanced.
Very well done.
